Food | AD - An Evening At The Barnt Green Inn

I've never been known to turn down a chance to try out new food (since I'm too old and boring to go clubbing, going out to a restaurant is my fave past-time), so I was very excited when The Barnt Green Inn got in touch to see if I'd like to try out their menu and preview their grand new refurbishment!
It was my first time visiting The Barnt Green Inn so I didn't get a chance to see what it looked like before but I was blown away by just how luxurious everything was! It still has a welcoming and cosy pub vibe, but the new interior has been so well thought out and done to such a high standard, especially in the restaurant area. And don't even get me started on the toilets - the boujie-est bathrooms I ever did see, I've been thinking about those tiles non-stop since our visit and NEED to know where I can get them for myself!

There's loads of different areas to sit within the pub as well as a couple of different rooms within the restaurant area itself and even though the it's a massive space, everything feels very intimate and it would be the perfect location for date night. The drinks selection is fab with everything you need from draught beers and yummy cocktails, all the way through to bottle service gin!
I thought it might be a bit OTT to give this a go, especially with uni the next morning, so settled instead for a much more sensible single measure of gin at the DIY gin bar - such a treat to welcome everyone in for the evening! We were able to pimp our gins out with everything from fruit garnishes, to syrups and rose petals and I had a lot of fun choosing what to add to my drink. In the end I went for watermelon (my fave), with strawberries and rose petals for my gin and lemonade - one day I'll be sophisticated enough to upgrade to tonic...

After we'd sat and enjoyed our drinks whilst taking in the surroundings, it was time to move over to the restaurant and onto the main event...THE FOOD.
I have eyes bigger than my belly and it takes me about 10 years to decide what to order, but while Nath and I made our choices, we were asked if we'd like to sample some oysters! Neither of us had tried them before, so we bit the bullet and gave them a go and they were only the start of the yummy food we were about to have.

After an agonising wait for my poor other half, we finally placed our orders and went for the scallops as well as the octopus and chorizo for our starters and then for the main course we went for the rack of lamb and the pork belly.

WOW.

Honestly, some of the best food I've tried in a long time - again, it was easy to forget you were in a country pub and not a five star restaurant! Everything was beautifully presented and the portion sizes were ample with each dish full of flavour and full of elements that perfectly complimented the other. The prices were very reasonable for the quality on offer and with such a wide variety of dishes on offer, we both agreed that it would be the perfect place to enjoy a family get together or a special occasion and we can't wait to take some of our friends back in the summer to enjoy the outside area.

If we weren't stuffed enough by that point (we most definitely were, but I'll never be defeated by dessert), the puds finished us off but it was so worth it. We asked for recommendations on pretty much everything, and the waiter told us to give the creme brulee and the sticky toffee pud a go, so we did and they were both bloody delicious! Obviously I had to finish with a cappuccino at the end, because caffeine, and waddled over to the car for the journey home with a very full but happy stomach.

We had such a lovely experience at The Barnt Green Inn and we already can't wait to go back! It's just reopened to the general public so if you're in the Birmingham/West Midlands area and are in need of some good food in a beautiful setting, I'd highly recommend popping The Barnt Green Inn on your list!

Always, Alice x
