Life | 2019 So Far...

Hi there guys, it's been a minute hasn't it?

As usual, I've done the whole 'I've been the worst blogger ever but now I'm back on it and am totally going to post regularly from now on and get my shit together' - only to disappear off the face of the internet for months. I'm not quite sure what's made me pick my laptop again and start writing but I've just had a bit of an itch to get back into everything which I haven't felt in a good couple of years, so here we are!

Since it's been a while, I thought I'd give you all a little update on my year so far and some of the highlights and things that have made 2019 pretty bloody fabulous up to now...

1. Finishing my first year of uni with a first.
If you didn't know, me and the other half moved halfway down the country and enrolled ourselves in university last year at the grand old age of 26 and it's a decision I could not be more happy about. I wasn't sure what to expect from my fashion design course after giving it a go years ago and sacking it off after a few months, but I'm so proud to say I managed a first overall for my first year! Granted, it's only the foundation year of course (the joys of being a mature student and not having relevant a-levels anymore) but I'm still so happy about my progress and hard work over the last year and I cannot bloody wait to get on with the next stage of my degree in a couple of weeks!

2. Summer travels.
I was lucky enough to go on two holidays this summer, firstly 10 days in Gran Canaria and then 4 days in Budapest (which I'll be writing a post about later) and both trips have definitely been highlights of my year. We've started making travel plans for next year too and I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed that it'll be somewhere out of Europe which will be a first for me!

3. Learning a new language.
Inspired by my trip to Gran Canaria in the summer, I randomly decided that I wanted to broaden my horizons and start learning a new language, namely Spanish. While I absolutely love travelling, I often feel a little uncomfortable if there's a language barrier and feel so ignorant when I can't communicate with the locals and wanted to do something about it for the future. Obviously learning one language isn't going to solve that issue every time I travel but I really wanted to educate myself better, so I downloaded a language app called Duolingo and I haven't looked back since! Turns out, I'm actually not bad at it so far but I'll keep you updated...

4. Prioritising reading.
I used to be a total bookworm when I was younger, but over the last 10 years or so I rarely found myself reaching for a book in my spare time. I wanted to make a point of reading more this year - especially after I found my Kindle that I for sure thought I'd broken - and I'm not quite sure how I've managed it but I'm currently on my 74th book for the year...errrrr what?! I've got so many books on my 'to read' list too, so I don't think I'll be stopping anytime soon!

5. Developing a better relationship with my mind and body.
I'm not quite sure what's happened in the last year but for the first time ever, I feel as though I'm really in tune with my body and mind and what I need to get through the day, and how to read the signals that my body is sending to me. I've made an effort to eat healthier and be more active and I'm actually ENJOYING it. I allow myself plenty of 'me time' and have gotten myself into a pretty great daily self-care routine which I might elaborate more on in a future blog post. My mental health is better than it's ever been and I spend 99.9% of my days in a positive and happy mood which is just the best really isn't it!

There's so many more highlights of the year that I could waffle on about, but in summary, it's been a bit of an amazing year so far and I'm really happy with where I'm currently at! It's been a year full of exciting experiences and I'm looking forward to seeing what's to come for the next few months...watch this space!

What's been a highlight of your year so far?

Always, Alice x
