Beauty | My Hero Products Of 2017

*apologies huns, but I think this is going to be a rambly one...

Firstly can we just take a minute to talk about how we're almost a whole 2 weeks into 2018 already? I hope yours is going fab so far (and that you've still got some leftover Christmas chocolate to help cure those January blues!), and while I'm 100% in make-2018-the-best-year-ever mode, I'm rewinding it back to last year and let you in on all of the beauty products that I loved and used pretty much daily.

I'm a creature of habit and once I find something I love, I normally stick to it and keep repurchasing it over and over again so you have my word that the things I'm singing to the high heavens about have been tried and tested a million times over and I just NEED to tell you about all of them...

Starting with skincare - MY FAVE - 2017 was definitely the year when I started looking after my skin and really learning what products work well for me (I've got combination/dry and dehydrated skin FYI) and those that don't and I love nothing more than coming home from a long day, tiring day and pampering my skin with all my fave products like the queen I think I am.

Day/Night Cream | In my opinion, the most essential part of any skincare routine, is the moisturiser you nourish your skin with and I've been using a day and night combo that is literally THE DREAM. In a morning, I use the Origins Make A Difference + and at night I slap a load of the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense around my chops. Both are very rich creams, but it's something I've been in desperate need of, especially in the back end of the year and it's a winning combination for me.

Eye Cream | I'd always just used whatever eye cream I had lying around at home without really paying attention to the benefits, but after a little last minute shopping trip in Kings Cross and a little skin chat with a lovely girl at Kiehls, I finally added the Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment into my life and I don't think I'll be looking back! I won't go into detail as I wrote a whole post about it here, but if you haven't tried it, I couldn't recommend more!

Serums | I don't really care for using serums on my face, but I'm a big lover of using them around my eyes. The Oskia Eye Wonder Serum is hands down one of the BEST products I used in 2017. It's a pricey little bugger, don't get me wrong, but the little 15ml bottle I picked up back in April is still going strong to this day and it has made the biggest difference to my eye area. Again, you can read an in-depth post about it here, but if you've not got quite the budget for that, The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is a real winner - and it's only SIX POUNDS.

Cleanser | Basic blogger alert but there was really only going to be one winner in this category. No surprises here, but my fave cleanser of the year and probably all time is the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. I'm probably on my 3rd bottle of this stuff now and it just keeps getting better (would you believe it, I've written another post about it here, give it a read gals). It leaves my skin feeling so unbelievably clean and nourished after a long day and I just don't think anything else will ever compare. I am intrigued to try out the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser though so if you've tried that, let me know your thoughts!

Toner | For most of the year, I was head over heels with the Pixi Glow Tonic which I'm sure most of you have given a try by now and while it's definitely up there with my faves, a latecomer in 2017 surpassed it ever so slightly. I'm talking about the Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist, which is different to anything I've ever used before. It's a mist for one (duh!), and it's so gentle yet so effective and it leaves my skin feeling so refreshed and just generally feeling amazing! Another one that deserves an honourable mention has to be the Origins A Perfect World Age Defence Treatment Lotion. While I'm only 25, it's never to early to start thinking about anti-ageing and it's just a small step that I'm adding to my routine to start prepping my skin for the future! It's a lovely post-cleanse treatment that is v. refreshing and one that's 100% worth picking up.

Hand Cream | I'll keep this one short but sweet. If you have dry AF hands - especially if you work in a restaurant/hospital - go and buy yourself the Lush Helping Hands Hand Cream and thank me later. It really is a gift.

Fake Tan | I plan on writing a post dedicated to all of my fake tan wins and woes (and oh my there's been a few), but I'll let you in on a spoiler and share my fave fake tan from the last few months - the Bondi Sands Liquid Gold. It's a dry oil for one which is such a new concept for me, but it gives the most flawless finish and doesn't smell of biscuits, YAS!

On to the make-up section on what has become a bloody essay (soz huns), and while I love nothing more than sitting down to put my face on in a morning, I haven't really invested in a whole load of products this year, instead buying mostly buying from the drugstore but finding some firm favourites along the way...

FoundationI was torn between two in this category, and while I have and always will have so much love for the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation that I wrote a little ode to earlier in the year (here), I've been using the Bourjois City Radiance Foundation every single day since I bought in back in summer on some 3 for 2 deal. It's definitely less coverage than I'm used to be but I'm okay with that - it's long-wearing and gives me the loveliest your-skin-but-better glow that I cannot get enough of!

Concealer | Speaking of 3 for 2 deals, another product I picked up alongside the Bourjois foundation is the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer. It provides enough coverage without being cakey and it stays put all-day without any touch-ups and without my dark circles breaking out for everyone to see! Another cheap and cheerful bae that I'll be repurchasing over and over.

Brow Product | I've really gotten into using wax pomades on my brows, and while I'm still yet to try the Anastasia Dip Brow, I have a feeling that the L'Oreal Paradise version is probably just as good at half the price! The colour I've got - Brunette - matches perfectly and it comes with a pretty good brush on the end too! I'm desperate to try the Glossier Boy Brow this year though to up my brow game even further for 2018...

Eyeshadow | In the eyeshadow stakes, there was only ever going to be one winner as there was really only one eyeshadow palette that I reached for last year - the Morphe 35OM Matte Nature Glow palette. The mix of warm and cool shades are perfect for my neutral skin tone and I've had so much fun playing around with different looks! I've hit pan on quite a few shades which shows you how well loved this is and I'm yet to find another eyeshadow palette with such pigmented and long-lasting shades! (I got mine from Beauty Bay and avoided the waiting lists...and it arrived the next day!)

Lip Products | If you've seen me with anything on my lips this year, the chances are it's been one of Barry M's Matte Me Up liquid lipsticks. I get so many people asking me what I'm wearing and I get so excited telling them about these babies that are under a tenner and quite frankly the best liquid lipsticks I've ever tried - and I've tried a lot. You either find me wearing the bright red shade, which is super long-lasting and fuss-free or my nude shade of choice 'Go To', which is rather aptly named. They don't dry out the lips at all and matte down into such a gorgeous velvet texture that I almost forget I'm wearing anything at all!

Mascara | I seem to have done my rounds of drugstore mascaras but I keep going back to my fave, the L'Oreal Miss Baby Roll mascara. Plain and simple, I LOVE THIS. It gives my lashes just the right bit of clump without looking like Holly Geordie Shore circa Season 1, it stays put all day and is waterproof without actually being waterproof. It's cheap as chips and really is a fab product that I'd highly recommend!

Highlighter | I can't leave the house without a glow to my cheekbones, and nothing compares for me more than the Charlotte Tilbury Glow half of the Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette. It's not sparkly but still leaves a wow-factor and I always get people complimenting on my highlight! FYI, I love the bronzer shade in the palette too but unfortunately that's seen better days and so has my carpet...

Fragrance | I couldn't leave any sort of beauty ramble without telling you about my favourite fragrances and I have two that you really need in your collection if you haven't already! First up is Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt that is so hyped within the blogging world and now I can totally see why! It's such a fresh and clean scent that is unlike anything I have but I absolutely love dousing myself in this stuff, especially for date night! One that's quickly become my day-to-day fragrance of choice has to be Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb Bloom. I love the original Flowerbomb scent but this one is just something else and I always get so many lovely comments whenever I wear it - plus isn't the bottle just gorgeous?!

A big WELL DONE if you've made it all the way to the end and thanks for bearing with me cos I bloody love a ramble! I'd love to know what your ultimate hero products of 2017 were and if you've been inspired to try out any of mine? If you're a regular reader, you'll know I've been doing a little 'Holy Grail of the month' post every so often so in keeping with that I thought I'd do a Holy Grail of 2017!

*drum roll please*

My Holy Grail product of 2017 has to be...The Barry M Matte Me Up Lip paints, without a shadow of a doubt. I can't leave the house without taking one with me and it just completes my look for the day whether I'm dressed up or dressed down. Kylie, eat your heart out!

Like I said, let me know in the comments what your hero products of 2017 were, I'd love to try out some newbies that are being raved about!

Always, Alice x
