Out And About: Birthday Brunch At Clerkenwell Grind

Instagram made me do it.

If you didn't know, I turned the ripe old age of 25 a couple of weeks ago and was lucky enough to spend it in London with my delightful other half.
Obviously the first thing on my mind was where we were going to eat and I was absolutely adamant that I wanted a delicious brunch on the big day somewhere cool and quirky that did amazing coffee and allllll the pancakes.

My first choice was the AMAZING Duck & Waffle which wasn't far from our hotel but I completely forgot to book a table (which is 100% necessary on a Saturday morning unless you wanna eat at 6:45am...) but it's okay huns, cos we managed to get a cheeky little table at my next choice: Clerkenwell Grind.

I'd seen the velvet and marble filled beauty on Instagram a million times and the food looked insane and it turns out it was only 2 stops away on the tube from our hotel which was lucky as afterwards we were in too much of a food coma to travel much further!

If you haven't been to a Grind before, they're a small chain of around 6 cafe/bars scattered around London and they basically do the most amazing food and cocktails and everything is so Instagrammable it makes my heart hurt. I, of course, picked the Clerkenwell branch as it is SERIOUSLY interior goals and every bloggers dream.

I'd heard so many things about the food and cocktails, but since breakfast and brunch is my all-time favourite meal of the day we decided to check that out.

WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED.

Let's just say we had to move to a bigger table so we could fit our 4 freakin' course brekkie on the table (and so I could get a better flatlay, obvs).

Firstly I had a little meltdown that my latte came in a little cute glass that I see all over Instagram but nowhere near where I live is hip or cool enough to serve it like that. It was also pretty amazing coffee.

Like I'm such a coffee snob and that stuff is good.

The food though. Oh wow.

I don't quite know what we were thinking ordering 4 courses but lemme tell you, no regrets were had.
The blueberry pancakes called out to me straight away, but then I saw the banana french toast (with a delicious coconut cream on the side OH MY) and it had to be mine too.

Nath went for a full English but it was still quite fancy with the best bread ever and a perfect poached egg.

If all that wasn't enough, I also went for the sweet potato harissa cakes with yoghurt on the top and let me tell you it was the most delicious thing that I have ever eaten in my entire life.

I've got a weird addiction to harissa mayo that I picked up from my last job, so this was just like heaven on earth and it was interesting having something so spicy for my breakfast!

The juices and smoothies are just as amazing, and it's a shame we didn't spend more time in London or I'd have definitely been back to sample some of the cocktails and try out the famous bottomless prosecco brunch!

I don't think I've ever actually eaten so much in my life, and I strategically wore a smock top to hide the mammoth food baby I was sporting for the rest of the day but it was the best way to celebrate turning 25.

Cos if you can't eat alllllll the carbs on your birthday, then when can you?

I'd love to know where your favourite place to brunch is in London or even around where you live and I'll definitely add it to my list of places to try!

And don't forget you can follow me on Bloglovin' to keep up to date with more of my posts in the future...

Always, Alice x
