Life: 5 Happy Things In July

I can't actually even believe July is nearly over and done with and we are a whole 8 months into 2017.

Where is the time going?!

That being said, July was a fab month for me for many reasons and I'm here to tell you aaaaaaalll about them...

One. /  It was MY BIRTHDAY. Yaaaaas I am a July baby, and this year, my delightful spouse booked us a table at Paternoster Chop House in London (AKA, the First Dates restaurant) and we decided to make a weekend of it and have a little explore down in the big smoke! I will start off by saying though, that the First Dates restaurant wasn't what we expected it to be.
The food was nice and everything, but it wasn't as fancy as we anticipated (ie: people in flip flops and sportswear and me in a tiny dress and heels) and it's not at all like it looks on the TV and to top it off, Fred wasn't even there sooooooo while my steak was perfectly nice and everything, we won't be rushing back for a special occasion. All in all though, we had such a LOVELY weekend wandering around London (averaging about 10 miles a day, no joke) and it was the best place to celebrate turning the big 25. We went for an amazing brunch at Clerkenwell Grind, which you can read all about here, and basically just bled ourselves dry in Covent Garden - yay!

Two. / Another happy thing to come from July was me starting my new job! It's by no means exciting, but it's so much less stress than my previous one and it's had such a calming influence on my mental health already which was probably the main reason for the change in the first place. It's just a waitress job but it's at a lovely little restaurant on a lake and it's probably the prettiest setting ever. Definitely makes a change from the local boozer that's rammed with people until 2am every weekend!

Three. /  As a result of my new job, it's weirdly opened up so much more free time for me despite being more or less the same amount of hours as my last one. I've gotten myself into a little routine now of getting up earlier without being shattered and it's done wonders for my productivity levels. I'm able to spend more time at the gym and my blog is going from strength to strength. I'm also able to spend more time with friends and I generally just feel so much happier in myself day to day!

Four. /  Getting stuck into a good book (or two). Just a little thing that made me happy this month was spending less time in front of the TV and more time getting stuck into a good book. I used to be such a book worm but adult life started getting in the way and I had less time to spend reading than I'd have liked. Now I make sure I set aside at least half an hour before bed to relax myself and tuck myself up with my latest read and I'm loving it! I'm currently reading The House of New Beginnings by Lucy Diamond and it's so cute so far - and it's about Brighton AKA my FAVE place in the world so obviously it was a good choice.

Five. / Since my new job is a lot further away than my last one and I have to drive there, it's given me so much confidence in myself as a new driver and I'm so happy! I'm probably the most nervous driver ever and I've found myself having more than one meltdown on occasion but recently I've felt so much more at ease behind the wheel from driving so frequently and I am finally LOVING having my pink license. Next, I just need to tackle motorways...

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! I used to upload a weekly version of this (Sunday Post: What Made Me Happy This Week) but they started to get a bit tedious after a while especially if I had a boring week of work! I thought I'd switch it up to monthly instead, so let me know what you think!

I hope you all had an amazing July and I'd love to know what your highlight from the past month was in the comments below.

Always, Alice x
