Life: The Healthy Habits That Really Make A Difference

In an age where everyone and everything is green and healthy and there's more HIIT loving vegans around than ever before, its easy to get caught up in fad trends for staying healthy and keeping fit.

But (and especially in my case), it's even easier to fall off the wagon and end up right back where you started being just as unhealthy with a Dominos/Costa addiction and the only exercise you're getting is walking to and from the fridge. With that in mind, I've really been making it my mission in 2017 to slowly make little changes and form habits that I can keep for life and that have really made a difference and have helped me to feel healthier and better than I've ever felt before and I want to share them with you!

Drink more water / It seems like a really obvious one to start on but when you're such a coffee fiend like me, it's hard to get even the teeniest bit of my daily H20 intake. I see it as a daily challenge now though to drink at least 2 litres worth and more often than not now I drink even more! I picked up this huge litre bottle from Primark for next to nothing and I can't stress enough how much of a difference this has made to my energy levels and curbing those naughty cravings!

Do a spot of yoga / If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know how much of a fan I am of Yoga With Adriene and her January yoga challenges. Doing yoga is so relaxing after a stressful day and it's a fab way to get in your daily exercise if you're not a fan of more strenuous activities - although saying that, it's definitely one of the best exercises you can do to tone and strengthen your muscles and increase your flexibility!

Make time to exercise / But don't punish yourself if you miss a session. We're all human and lead busy lives and as much as I've been LOVING getting back into the gym, it's sometimes just not possible to fit everything in. I've been trying to do at least 3 hour long sessions every week with the odd bit of yoga mixed in but there's tons of super quick workout routines on Youtube if you're especially short on time!

Stop smoking and cut down on alcohol / Totally foul I know, but I've always been partial to the odd social smoke. It's rank, I hate it, yet it happens but it's something I desperately want to nip in the bud this year as I concentrate on my health. Cutting down my alcohol intake isn't as hard as I'm not much of a party girl these days and I'm much happier at home now with a cuppa than with an espresso martini in hand but I know it might be harder for some of you gals to eliminate either of these completely. Even just trying to do a month smoke or alcohol free will do the world of difference to your health and wellbeing though and might help you kick the habit for good!

Cook more, cook healthy / Me and my other half are obsessed with Joe Wick's Lean In 15 books at the minute and we've started stocking up on essentials so there's never an excuse to order a takeaway mid-week.  We're also cutting down processed food until we eventually get to a point where we can eliminate it all together! I'd definitely recommend the Lean In 15 cookbooks if you're not a natural cook or you're short on time or money as you don't need a lot of resources (or time!) to make a healthy and quick evening meal!

Read more and sleep earlier / We all know that a good 7-8 hours of sleep is super important but the hour or so before bed is probably even more so when you want to be well rested. Instead of spending time on my phone or watching tv before bed, I turn everything off and do a bit of reading - even if it's just an old magazine - so that my brain can slowly wind down and I sleep so much better for it! I also try to go to bed at a reasonable time each night when I can, which I find helps me wake up earlier and more refreshed for the day ahead!
